Dome Bulfaro

Poet, teacher and artist Dome Bulfaro is artistic director of PoesiaPresente LAB, hosts of Self Help Show in Monza in May 2023. We look forward to developing international dialogue and creative exchanges, and exploring illustrative and performative aspects of the show with Dome and colleagues on site. PoesiaPresente LAB is Italy’s first school of poetry.

Ivor Davies

Ivor Davies created Prolegomena as part of Self Help Show in Oriel Canfas in 2022, a book preface and action painting event with readings in Welsh and Italian. He also joined a reading from Self Help I(s)land and performed in Arrival, an antemasque devised by Richard Parry, filmed by Stefan Szczelkun. You can see the video here.

Ivor’s Pyrogenesis, Five-Dimensional Orchestration for pyro-syrinx, harp, saw, gong, bell, trumpet, baritone, poetry and film (2016) and Beach (1967) will screened as part of the Turner House show.

Self-Image

David Sinden and Kate Woodward have collaborated on numerous projects exploring identity, poetry and sound, including Photo Renga and Altered Ego. For The Turner House show, David and Kate lead a self-portraiture workshop.

  • Photographer

David is an independent photographer, curator and educator whose work often explores the representation of identity. He has been documenting Self Help Show and has created many of the images on this site.

  • Facilitator

Musician and gallery facilitator Kate has worked with David on a number of Photo Renga and projects exploring identity.

Richard Parry

Our collaboration follows on from work by Parry & Glynn and other creative projects. Richard has influenced the staging and philosophical shaping of Self Help Show, drawing from work in facilitation, theology and carnival. In response to the Oriel Canfas exhibition Richard created Arrival, an antemasque with Ivor Davies, which was filmed by Stefan Szczelkun. You can view the video here.

The Self Help project grows from neighbourly conversations and events in Penarth and the wider community, placing relationship, aesthetic and social affection at the heart of public life and artistic practice.

Richard is founder of Coleridge Cymru.

Performers

We are grateful to the performers who have brought life to the musical and theatrical dimensions of Self Help Show, including Guto Dafis, Ivor Davies, Bob Evans, Richard Parry, Hannah Price, Mary-Anne Roberts and Domestic Violins, and Stefan Szczelkun.

Thanks to Yvonne Murphy/Omidaze Productions for inviting us to The Talking Shop in Merthyr Tydfil, and Dick Johns for inviting us as guests The Great Pandemic Sofa Show. We look forward to working with performance poet Dome Bulfaro and moving image makers at Poesia Presente in Monza 13-20 May 2023.
